Goodwill Industries in Knoxville is now offering Google’s IT Support Professional Certificate Program. The program is FREE to qualified participants and consists of a 5-course curriculum that can be completed in 6-8 months (a minimum of 8 hours per week). It is taught virtually by professional instructors and Goodwill finishes out the program by helping participants with job placement.

Requirements to receive the scholarship:

• 18 years or older
• Residing in a household with an income under 200% of the federal poverty level (single person less than $25,520)
• High school diploma or equivalency or be in the process of obtaining
• Does not have 4-year degree completed in the United States
• Can achieve 9th grade English language, reading, & math scores

Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation changes mission-Fighting childhood hunger

Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation was established by Y-12 Federal Credit Union, a

full-service financial provider headquartered in Oak Ridge, TN. The Foundation was launched July 17, 2017 and has provided over $100,000 in grants to non-profit organizations in the service area which includes, Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier and Union County. The focus of the Foundation was to provide grants in the areas of education, health and wellness and emerging community needs. 

Effective with the 2020 grant cycle the focus of the Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation will be, fighting childhood hunger. The purpose is to reduce the number of undernourished children in the communities we serve by providing them food, knowledge and resources.

Grant application requests are currently being accepted for organizations that focus on fighting childhood hunger until January 15, 2020. To complete a grant request and/or for additional information visit Y-12fcugives.org.

Volunteer East Tennessee is coordinating nominations for the following counties in East Tennessee: Anderson, Blount, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, and Sevier.  

Volunteer East Tennessee is working with the Knoxville Technology Council to help connect "techies" to nonprofits through volunteering. Volunteer East Tennessee partners can submit tech-related volunteer projects for free and the fee is $35 for non-partners and only charged after the opportunity has been approved by them and a KnoxTech representative. The UTK Center for Career Development is launching a shadowing program for undergraduate students, and we are seeking alumni, community members, and employer partners to participate in the program as shadowing hosts. Our inaugural one-day shadowing program will take place on Tuesday, January 7^th, 2020 and is an opportunity to mentor and provide insight to students interested in your field while providing greater exposure for your organization , job function, and industry to UTK students.

To briefly explain job shadowing, it is designed to be an educational experience for students, as this may be their initial exposure to a professional environment. For others, it will be a chance to explore a career area they might otherwise not have exposure to or to investigate an interest area or potential major. The job shadow day itself may consist of observation of daily work, sitting in on meetings/other activities, touring your facility, speaking engagements from executives, informational interviews, or hands-on experience - all dependent on the nature of your industry and organization.
