Experience with fundraising, events, education or finance is especially valued, but we welcome anyone who has a passion for learning, language and leadership to apply. Board members serve three-year terms and are expected to attend board and committee meetings 1-2 times monthly, support fundraising efforts and events and make a financial commitment to Friends of Literacy.

Friends of Literacy offers programs to all adults, including native speakers of other languages, who want to learn how to read, improve their language skills or prepare for the high school equivalency exam. We also conduct family literacy events at area elementary schools and offer an online family literacy program to provide parents with resources they need to help their children become better readers. Our Reading Mentors program provides tutors for struggling young readers.
