font-family: Arial;">Determining how the organization carries out its mission through long and short-range planning and review.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Adopting an annual budget and providing fiscal oversight.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Recruiting, orienting, and developing board members.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Hiring and evaluating the performance of the executive director.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Evaluating its performance and the overall performance of the organization in achieving its mission.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Establishing policies for the effective management of the organization.</span></li></ul> <p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"><b><u>Responsibilities of Individual Directors</u></b></span></p> <ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Understanding and promoting the organization’s mission.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Being familiar with the organization’s programs and operations.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Being a working member of at least one board committee.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">12 monthly board meetings – 2 hours: 3<sup>rd</sup> Saturday of every month 1-3 p.m.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Committee work – 1-3 hours per month, or as decided by the committee.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Annual planning retreat – 1 day, usually a Saturday in November.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Attendance at events (time varies).&nbsp; Attendance at two events per year recommended.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Participate in ½ day orientation for new board members.</span></li></ul> <p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"><b><u>Financial and Resource Development Expectations</u></b></span></p> <ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Annual gift to organization (100% board giving is expected).&nbsp; Directors are asked to consider a gift that is “significant according to their circumstances.”&nbsp; A $200 gift is suggested as a minimum goal.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Sell tickets to organization fundraising events.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Recruit sponsors if possible.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Identify and assist in cultivation of potential donors.</span></li></ul><p><b style="font-family: Arial;"><u>Board Treasurer</u></b></p><ul><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Financial management/oversight. </span><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial; color: #1e1e1e;">Manage or oversee the management of the financial affairs of the organization, often including such basic tasks as selecting a bank, reconciling bank statements, and managing cash flow.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Budgets. R</span><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial; color: #1e1e1e;">esponsible for preparing, or facilitating the preparation of an annual budget, as well as regularly monitoring and comparing the actual revenues and expenses incurred against such budget.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Reports. </span><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial; color: #1e1e1e;">The Treasurer should have thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization’s financial reports and important financial ratios. The Treasurer should keep the board apprised of key financial events, trends, and concerns, and her assessments of the organization’s fiscal health. The Treasurer is also generally responsible for completing, or ensuring the completion of, required financial reporting forms (including the IRS Form 990) in a timely manner and making these forms available for the board’s review.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">Financial Liaison. </span><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial; color: #1e1e1e;">Should be able to translate financial concepts and information for board members who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience.</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial; color: #1e1e1e;">Required to serve on finance committee.</span></li></ul>]]></description>
